Our Story Phoenix Rising Biergarten

On January 1, 2011 an electrical fire all but destroyed the Old Stein Inn. Fortunately, no one was hurt— unfortunately, the restaurant would need to be completely rebuilt. Mike and Beth found the silver lining and used this as an opportunity to completely modernize the 108 year-old building. Keeping in mind the local economy and their place in the community, they used all local contractors during the 10-month project.

To express the warm, cozy feeling people have come to expect from the Old Stein, many reclaimed and reincarnated materials were used. A centerpiece of the interior is a 100 year-old bar rescued from a closed Manhattan restaurant which has been refinished and put back into service.

A new, state-of-the-art kitchen welcomes German-born Chef Jason Howard. The dining room is no longer a series of small areas, but now a large beer hall-style room with a cathedral ceiling and exposed beams.

Like a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes, the “New” Old Stein Inn has been reborn anew and eagerly awaits your visit.
